Some Reasons Why You Should Consider Window Security Screens

Window security screens are usually stainless steel grilles covered with a PVC membrane, which are installed over a window to deter vandals and intruders. Their security benefits are obvious, but you may not feel they are for you. Here are some common objections.

No need for them

Only you can decide the levels of risk and security you want in your home, and you may feel that you live in a low-crime area. However, there is a first time for everything, and one advantage of good security is that you don't have to worry about when that first time will happen. The financial and emotional costs of recovering from vandalism or burglary are far greater than the costs of taking precautions—and by then, of course, it's too late.

They look ugly

Some people feel that their home will look like a prison with window security screens. Modern screens, however, are very unobtrusive and can be designed to blend in with the rest of the building. They can be nearly invisible when seen from a distance but will act as a deterrent as well as a preventative barrier when seen up close.

They will lower the house value

Window security screens will not lower your house's value. In fact, the opposite seems to be the case. As they are unobtrusive and will not rust, the extra security provided by these screens will only make your property more desirable to a future buyer and will increase the price of your property, making the grille an investment as well as a present-day way of protecting your family home.

They take too much maintenance

The PVC covering of the grille will ensure that the screen remains corrosion-free, and it should not collect too much dirt—they should just need wiping down with detergent every now and again as part of your cleaning routine, a small price to pay for the extra security and peace of mind.

They are too expensive

There will always be a price to pay for security measures, but is it worth skimping on them? Repairing your windows or replacing stolen goods can cost far more, and security screens can quickly repay the money you spent on them by saving the costs of burglaries and vandalism.

Security screens are an effective way of deterring unwanted intruders, and they will not affect the look of your home or require a lot of work to be kept smart and effective.
