Which Screen Is Right For Your Bath?

If you want to install a shower over your bath, then you will need some form of protection to prevent splashing over the rest of the bathroom. Of course, if you have a dedicated shower enclosure, then this is not an issue, but showers that stand over baths must either have a curtain or a shower screen. Assuming that you do not want a curtain, which can often feel a little claustrophobic, to say the least, it will boil down to which sort of shower screen you want. There are numerous shower screens on the market that are suitable for baths. Read on to find out more about them.

Single Screens

These are just about the simplest form of shower screens you could opt for. They are generally fitted to the closest wall to the showerhead and have a hinge so that they can be wiped down after use easily. Because a single shower screen does not extend all the way along one side of the bath, however, splashing may still occur. That said, they afford convenient access whether bathing or showering.

Double Screens

Generally speaking, double shower screens are a little longer than single ones, although they are rarely twice as long. They are called double because they have a further hinge in the middle which means that they operate a little like bi-folding doors. Double screens can be folded up on themselves to allow for better access in smaller bathrooms and then opened up to prevent most splashes from falling over the side of the bath.

Foldaway Screens

These glass shower screens have four or even five sections of glazing that concertina back and forth on one another when they are not in use. As such, you gain even more access to your bath than with a double screen. Therefore, they tend to be preferred by people with limited mobility for whom getting in and out of the bath means being able to grab handles conveniently. They are also good for new parents who will be bathing their child in the bath and then using the bathroom at other times for showering.

Bath Enclosures

The only sort of glass shower screen that will prevent all splashes from escaping the bathtub is a bath enclosure. These products wrap right around the bath like a super-sized shower tray enclosure. Some baths are even designed specifically to work with them. Reinforced glass ones are common but you can also find clear polycarbonate versions.
