Shower Screen Buying Guide

Aside from the bedroom and the kitchen, the next most important room is the bathroom. It's the room where you freshen up before starting your day and before going to bed. Your bathroom is an intimate space that could use some redesigning to make it more hospitable.

You can start by swapping your shower curtains for shower screens to reduce the time spent cleaning up after a bath. Shower screens also create a less hazardous environment, especially for elders and kids. Below are key attributes to help you choose the right shower screens for your bathroom.

Bathroom size

How much space do you have in your bathroom? The size will dictate the kind of glass you choose. For example, a bathroom with more space can use tinted or frosted glass screens as they have minimal effect on the proportions. A smaller bathroom needs clear glass as it gives the illusion of additional space.

Glass maintenance

While shower screens look good in a bathroom, they are hard to clean. You want to choose glass that is easy to maintain. For example, you can install frameless shower screens as you can clean the entire surface with ease. This is because there are no frames to trap mould or dirt.

For privacy, choose an acid-etched glass as it's easier to clean than frosted glass.

Consult experts

Although you can install the shower screens without professional help, it's better to have an expert handle the installation process. They are more knowledgeable and understand the types of shower screens available on the market. The experts will also advise you on the right shower screen to install in your bathroom. This will ensure that your installation cost remains within the budget range and avoid installation mishaps.

Material

Shower screens vary depending on the material used, but the two primary materials are acrylic and tempered glass. Acrylic has a few upsides in that it's lighter and less expensive than glass. However, it fades over time and damages easily. It's also harder to clean and has little UV resistance. Alternatively, tempered glass is stronger and offers greater resistance compared to normal glass when subjected to temperature differences. It's costly compared to standard glass and acrylic, but it's easier to clean. It also shatters into small pieces which reduce the risk of serious injury. Overall, tempered glass is better and creates a more pleasant décor than acrylic.
